Test and Measurement

The Insensys Test and Measurement (T&M) system is a highly configurable, easy to use, load measurement system especially designed for stand-alone use during dynamic and static testing for blade load verification and regulatory certification.

Static Blade Testing
The versatility of Insensys' unique technology makes it highly suitable for prototype and testing applications. The fully digital unit boasts exceptional resolution and accuracy with high data transfer rates in real-time over a very large measurement range (+/- 4,500 microstrain.)  Up to 100 sensors can be quickly and reliably attached to the test sample using just one fibre optic cable, simplifying the test procedure, eliminating complex wiring and any interference issues. The complete configurability means that the system can be programmed to interrogate any or all of the sensors at any frequency, in any order, and with any synchronisation required.

Blade Fatigue Test
Insensys Fibre optic sensors offer vastly superior fatigue reliability compared with electrical resistive strain gauges - no fatigue-related failure has been seen with an Insensys sensor in many hundreds of millions of cycles, at strains of up to +/-4,500 microstrain.

Prototype Testing
The system can be fitted during manufacture or retrofitted in the field. Because the system is simple and can interrogate many sensors in a single fibre, several areas can be monitored from a single unit, including:

- Blade bending	- Hub	- Shaft loads
- Blade shape	- Blade / hub interfaces	- Towers
- Blade twist

A key virtue of the fibre-optic technology is that it is completely immune to the EMI issues that often confound conventional strain measurement equipment in advanced test facilities.
