Insensys (Intelligent Sensing Systems) is a privately owned global leading supplier of fibre optic measurement systems. We supply strain measurement systems to many leading Wind Turbine manufacturers, as well as customising core technology for applications in Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Marine and other markets. Insensys is based in Fareham, employing approximately 50 people. We design and manufacture on site, and deliver systems to our customers in Europe, Asia and the US. Summary of the Engineering Role:

A varied mix of desk-based and hands-on engineering within the applications and development team of a rapidly growing renewable energies technology company. Primarily focused on developing embedded software and firmware to control the microcontroller- and FPGA-based electronics within our company products. The role will also involve the development of PC and mobile applications for our customer configuration tools, for internal research & development and for use by our manufacturing teams. You will be frequently involved in supporting other engineering colleagues with their research and development tasks.

Full time Permanent contract, 40 hour a week

Qualifications and experience:

  • 1st or 2:1 degree in Electronic Engineering
  • Need to be a motivated team player in a very supportive, multidisciplinary engineering department, working alongside mechanical, electronics, software, and photonics colleagues
  • Have a positive outlook on life, enjoy learning with optimism to have fun and take pride in their work, and yet be conscientious enough to seek help when needed
  • An organised person, largely responsible for management of their own daily tasks and timekeeping in projects and may also lead on shorter-duration internal projects
  • Will work cooperatively with the team’s project manager for the planning, tracking, and reporting out of risks and progress on our larger internal and external projects
  • Fair (not expert) competence and confidence with engineering-level mathematics
  • Computer literate, comfortable with Web, Email, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experienced in C/C++ or be experienced in other compiled languages and be eager to use that existing knowledge (of software methods and concepts) to learn C/C++
  • Experienced with developing software for embedded microcontroller systems or else eager to learn to adapt their PC software experience into embedded systems
  • Analogue and / or digital electronics and systems
  • Verilog or VHDL, logic design, finite state machines and digital signal processing
  • Operating systems, data structures and algorithms, memory management and concurrent systems
  • Android using Kotlin or Java or iOS development using Swift or Objective C
  • LabVIEW, Python, JavaScript, HTML, MATLAB or other scripted languages
  • Working in Linux and confidence with GNU command-line tools
  • Raspberry PI, Arduino or other embedded systems
  • Source control systems, such as SVN/subversion or Git

Actively intervene in any unsafe act or condition that may be identified. Co-operate with the Management Team so far as is necessary to ensure that the requirements defined by the Integrated QHSE Management System are performed or complied with. Ensuring that any PPE issued or made available for use is used, maintained correctly and any loss or damage is minimised. Immediately reporting any unsafe or potentially unsafe acts or conditions to your Supervisor or any member of the Management Team. Actively reporting any errors, omissions or potential improvements identified in the Health and Safety Management System and the associated controls or processes. Comply with all Client QHSE controls, processes and other requirements on Client work sites.
