Insensys (Intelligent Sensing Systems) is a privately owned global leading supplier of fibre optic measurement systems. We supply strain measurement systems to many leading Wind Turbine manufacturers, as well as customising core technology for applications in Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Marine and other markets. Insensys is based in Fareham, employing approximately 50 people. We design and manufacture on site, and deliver systems to our customers in Europe, Asia and the US. Our company has grown rapidly in the past 18 months and continues to expand in all areas. Summary of the Materials Engineer Role:

  • Provide materials expertise to new product development projects
  • Innovative approach, working closely with colleagues to understand requirements
  • Inquisitive mind, looking for solutions to complex issues
  • Drive product development projects, organising experiments, trials, testing and collating data.
  • Support new product roadmap implementation.
  • Support the completion of all project documentation.
  • Apply a strong understanding of materials analytical techniques to development projects.
  • Develop new materials opportunities through liaison with key suppliers and procurement.
  • Be able to familiarise oneself with literature research in a specific field of interest and with the appropriate class of materials build product concepts.
  • Be able to identify new materials development concepts and translate these into commercial opportunities/patent applications.
  • Deliver technical reviews and updates to all stakeholders on progress and future activities.

Full time Permanent contract, 40 hour a week


Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree or higher in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science
  • Practical experience of new product development and innovation.
  • Practical experience of literature searches in technology areas.
  • Experience of materials test procedures.
  • Extensive computer literacy, knowledge of experimental design.
  • Strong communication skills at all levels.
  • Experienced in technical report writing.
  • Focus on time to market and product cost.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally and across business units.
  • Strong organisational skills.
